Since I’m taking only a carry on for a 3 4″ day marketing conference, now I have an idea about what I should pack.yikes! I’d recommend finding a tad of personality. If other women need to, all power to them, By the way I mean, By the way I don’t know that I should myself. Academics are not the Taliban. Ok, and now one of the most important parts. Bland, boring. Nearly any conference will contain carboncopy women wearing variations on a dull theme, if everyone shops at the ‘bigname’ brands you recommend. I was slightly taken aback by your comment that women shouldn’t show cleavage.

Thank you a lot for this article! For work clothes, Know what guys, I shop at loads of the stores you’ve listed. As a result, I tally agree, it’s generally safer to be conservative than not. Dresses are now excluded from my wardrobe, with the exception of fancy work events and my personal attire on the weekends. It’s a well it just is not practical with the work I do, as much as I love to wear skirts and dresses. We have more examples of what’s and isn’t acceptable to wear, I’m luck in that my engineering environment has more women than other engineering firms.
I have, however, developed a brand new rule for myself regarding work attire as an engineer and that is.
My favorites, though, are Ann Taylor, White House Black Market, and NY and Company.
